State Minister launches 'Virusara' Privilege Card Phase - II

State Minister of Defence Hon. Ruwan Wijewardane handed over 'Virusara' Privilege Cards to War Hero beneficiaries under the Phase - II of the welfare project during a ceremony held at the Regimental Headquarters of the Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment (SLSR) in Ambepussa on Wednesday (23rd March 2016).

State Secretary of Defence Mr. APG Kithsiri was also present at the occasion.

During the ceremony a total of 1625 beneficiaries including 1387 beneficiaries from Army, 100 from Navy, 102 from Air Force, 31 from Police and 05 from Civil Security Department received Virusara cards.

Speaking at the occasion the State Minister stated that, Virusara card was introduced not to achieve political goals. but to honour and offer benefits to the war heroes who had sacrificed their lives and limbs for the sake of the motherland.

He also stated that not the President, Prime Minister, myself or the government has any intension to arrest war heroes who fought to safeguard the sovereignty, usher in unity and freedom to the nation. He noted that each and every person is subjected to the law of the country and if any person has broken the law, should be punished without considering their status.

Under the 'Virusara' card Phase - II a total of 13,000 Privilege Cards have already been distributed among War Hero beneficiaries.

Army and Navy Commanders, Chairperson of the Ranaviru Seva Authority, senior ministry officials, senior tri forces officers and a large number of beneficiaries and their family members were present at the occasion.
