The second phase of the distribution of Virusara Cards, implemented to look after the welfare of war heroes, will take off ground under the patronage of the president H.E. Maithripala Sirisena, at the Auditorium of the University of Rajarata on 27th June At 2.00 pm. A media briefing in this regard was held yesterday (21) with the participation of State Secretary of Defence, Mr. APG Kithsiri and President of Ranawiru Seva Authority, Mrs. Anoma Fonseka at the Media Center of Ministry of Defence Kollupitiya.
The first phase of Virusara card distribution catered for the family members of war heroes who made the supreme sacrifice and disabled war heroes, for bringing sustainable peace in the name of the motherland. Nearly 15,000 war heroes and their family members were benefited in the first phase. Meanwhile the second phase is aimed at the retired service personnel who were then, (1983 – 2009) on active service and civil personnel (including cooks/waiters) who were on duty during the said period.
The government and private institutions that joined hands in this magnanimous cause initially amounted 45 and by now it has grown up to 54 institutions.
The programme which is operated on the theme of “Sudu Paraviyanta Multhna Denna” is expected to offer benefits for nearly 300,000 war heroes and their family members.
The first phase of the programme was held under the patronage of the President H.E Maithripala Sirisena at the Temple Trees on 25th January 2016, since then the programme continues to roll on in 06 phases across the country granting benefits over 15,000 war heroes including 40,000 more beneficiaries.
