The 'Virusara' privilege card project being implemented on a concept of State Minister of Defence Ruwan Wijewardene under the theme ‘ Sudu Paraviyanta Multhena Denna” mainly aims to benefit around 300,000 war hero families. Families of military and civil war heroes served at Tri Forces, Police, Civil Security Forces who were fallen or went missing in action and disabled will be benefited through this project.
Beginning from January 2016 to date, the project carried out by the Ranaviru Seva Authority has so far distributed Virusara cards to over 30,000 tri-service War Heroes and family members. The card has enabled beneficiaries to obtain a wide range of benefits from more than 66 state and private sector entities. It offers them special discounts and privileges on products and services, foods, transportation, hospital treatments, medical facilities, educational courses, furniture, jewellery and also more importantly, priority service in the country.
Accordingly, another phase of Virusara Card distribution was organized under the patronage of President Maithripala Sirisena at Defence Services College kurunegala on March 29th 2017. The President also symbolically handed over 'Virusara' cards to some beneficiaries during the event. The award of 2000 'Virusara' cards among tri-service, Police and Civil Security Department War Heroes in the North Western Province was carried out at the function on the same day.
Up to date, State and private sector entities have offered benefits worth of more than Rs. 190.02 million to war heroes’ families in line with the project.
Members of the Maha Sangha, other religious dignitaries, Ministers, Governor of the North Western Province, Tri Forces commanders, IGP, senior Defence Ministry Officials, Chairperson of the Ranaviru Seva Authority, distinguished guests, War Heroes beneficiaries and a large number of their family members were also present at the occasion.
